Happy Birthday, Sweet Thomas ~ The Day Jesus Came Near

Happy 14 years in heaven to our sweet Thomas Patrick, who taught us about believing without seeing, and clinging to the hem of His garment. You brought heaven as close as a whisper, sweet boy. Today, we celebrate your life together as a family…your birthday and mine. Dreaming our dreams of you…until we hold you again.

Every time I look at this picture, I remember the day Jesus came near and kept His promise never to leave or forsake us. He came to carry our sweet baby home, and filled my heart with peace. That’s how I know He is who He says He is. That’s why I cling to Him still. I can never tell the story of Thomas without sharing the hope of the One who met us there, filling my heart with songs of joy in place of sorrow. If you ask me how I know that Jesus will carry you through the darkest valley, my answer will always be, I know…because He carried me.

Today, we will celebrate Thomas’ life and birthday mine (which was July 12th) together as a family, with dinner and a movie.

And, we remember always, the day Jesus came near…

  1. Stephanie D says:

Happy sweet birthday to both of you!

  2. Happy Birthday Thomas, your life has such meaning and power! Because of you and your sisters so many mommies have hope. Hope that we can make it through, hope that Jesus is real and will carry us through any storm. I know you are proud of your mommy and all that she dose in your name.

Kelly, I pray that blessings upon blessings are poured on your life and your ministry. Happy Birthday sweet friend. Thank you for all you do for all of us!

    • Thank you, beautiful Tesha. I’m so grateful hope is shining through…by His grace alone…as you well know. If He is revealed through any aspect of our lives, then we count it all joy. Thank you for your beautiful words of love…for me and for my Thomas. And, thank you for your prayers…and for all that you do to shine for Him, even in this valley. You are a blessing to many!

  3. Happy birthday, Thomas.

I love what you said about the picture reminding you of Jesus’ promise to never leave us. In the two days after we found out that Eve had died, when we were waiting to go to the hospital and be induced, and then waiting for her to be born, that ran through my head over and over and over — that He PROMISED to never leave or forsake us. That He PROMISED. I clung to that like a drowning woman clings to a life preserver. And it’s true. So true, even (or perhaps especially?) when we don’t feel it.

    Big hugs, Kelly.

  4. Happy Birthday to Thomas and birthday wishes to you too. ((HUGS))

  5. Happy Birthday to Thomas and to you as well Kelly! I pray your day went as good as possible. My son Noah shares the same homegoing date as well (born the 13th, died the 14th). It was 2 years yesterday for us. Thank you for the encouragement you give to so many of us.

  6. Kelly, he is so beautiful. Being so present with the face of a newborn right now, I can’t help see the similarities between your Thomas and my James. Seriously, I can’t get over the beauty of his little face…..praying for you as you continue to miss him. I know you rejoice in his reality, but I know your momma-heart misses, too.

  7. Remembering your Thomas ♥

  8. Happy Birthday Thomas and to you as well Kelly. What a beautiful picture! Thank you for sharing him.
